Summer Make Up Favourites

28 August 2015

There is only one more week of summer left and I am having serious holiday/festival blues being back in the north east. There has been a few products that I have been using religiously this summer that I want to write about...

Benefit Hoola
Over the summer I have gone back to my Hoola bronzer after neglecting it for a while and I now remember why I was so obsessed with it to start with. Hoola is a matte bronzing powder that is so simple and easy to use for contouring or just adding a bit of a tan to your face. It is one of Benefit's many box powders, which I love. I have hit pan on mine so as I am writing this I paused to add it back onto my make up shopping list. I LOVE it, you just can't go wrong.

MAC Mineralize Skin finish - Medium/dark
When I was on holiday I got a tan which meant I could no longer use my foundation as it was too light for my skin. I looked like I had a tanned body and a white face, which is NEVER a good look. I began just using my MSF powder, which I normally just use as a bronzer, all over my face and I really liked how it made my skin look. It prevented my skin from getting really oily and looked so natural.

Benefit High Beam
Now who doesn't love a good highlight? Especially in the summer. High beam is my favourite highlighter all year round really, not just in summer. It is so easy to apply and once blended in it gives the most gorgeous shimmer when the light hits it. I use my Nanshy angled air brush to blend it in to my cheek bones and a little under my brows.

ABH Dipbrow Pomade - Medium brown
Dipbrow pomade by ABH is my obsession when it comes to eyebrows. It is waterproof which is always a good quality when you're abroad as it doesn't smudge when you go in the pool or sweat, meaning you don't have half an eyebrow sliding down your face by lunch time. I have really thick eyebrows anyway so I don't need to use a lot of it, therefore I use it to shape them and add some definition. It is great for extending the end of your brows and defining the arch. Also it is a life saver for filling in any sparse areas. I apply it with the Benefit angled liner brush and then use the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer in the shade ivory to highlight under the eyebrow.

MAC Lipsticks - Taupe and Velvet Teddy
I think every MAC lover has discovered Velvet Teady this summer and I understand why it is so hyped up. I really like these lipsticks as they are both matte finishes and both go with any make up look. These literally are the only lipsticks I have worn while I have been on holiday and at V festival, ahhh I just love them. I have nearly ran out of Taupe so definitely need to repurchase it!

V Festival 2015

27 August 2015

Last weekend I found myself on a 5 hour coach journey to Stafford for V Festival. After having such an incredible day at T in the Park in July I was so eager to go to another festival before the end of the summer. It was quite an exciting thing considering it would be my first every time camping (yes I know, shocking). Anyway, heres how it went...

We arrived on the friday afternoon at around 3pm and had enough time to find a spot for the tent and set it up before the V Festival 20th birthday party at 7. I was completely hopeless at putting the tent up and neither of us had a clue so lucky our neighbors helped. We camped for 3 nights and actually managed pretty well, I thought I wouldn't be able to cope without a shower for that long but it didn't bother me too much. Lots of baby wipes had to do.

Luckily we managed to get into the closest campsite to the main arena so it was only a 15 minute walk to the tent.
Shorts - Topshop
Wellies - Hunter
This photo was taken on the saturday next to the MTV stage where we saw Scouting For Girls and The Coronas.

I took 7 sets of clothes for 4 days which I thought I was way too much and that I over packed but I ended up changing clothes twice a day as on the saturday it was so hot that I could not cope being in denim shorts and had to go put a floaty dress on. We stood in the sun for a good few hours and managed to get tan lines! Then on the night we were in the dance tent and I can't even describe how hot and sweaty it was in there. But it was worth it. Then on the sunday I had to yet again change clothes as it poured down while we were watching James Bay so we got soaked through!

As for make up all I ended up wearing was my Chanel Vitalumier Aqua foundation, MAC MSF powder, Benefits Roller lash, ABH Dip Brow and MAC taupe lipstick. I took way more make up than I should have because I even gave up with just wearing what I mentioned above by the sunday. As for skincare I took the Simple cleansing lotion, eye make up remover and wipes which I used so much over the 4 days. I wasn't too fussed about my body not being totally clean but I had to keep my face clean. I then took the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream which was literally my one essential product of the weekend that I would not have gone without. My skin was so soft and I didn't even gain any spots from the whole 4 days of no showers!

The band I was most looking forward to seeing was definitely the Courteeners so I had to get a tattoo to show it, why not? Unfortunately you were meant to leave them to dry for an hour, but it rained so it is now very smudged and not budging for 2 weeks. But anyway, the Courteeners were so good that I booked tickets to go see them in Newcastle in November the day after I got home! Was definitely worth waiting hours in the rain to get to the barrier.

Top - Topshop

The dance tent was where Ellie and I spent most of our Saturday. How we managed to spend hours straight in the Sure Arena tent and the Dance tent I will never know. We saw Duke Dumont, Philip George, Toddla T and Oliver Heldens. I really enjoyed all the DJ sets in the tents and I'm really pleased we picked Oliver Heldens over Calvin Harris as it was one of my favourite sets of the weekend. I also heard a lot of people say that Calvin Harris wasn't that great? You will have to let me know if you went.

I was loving this face glitter from Topshop all weekend. I wish I could wear it more often, it is so pretty! Really easy to apply with the face glue which it also from Topshop. What better way to disguise dark under eye circles hey? Of which mine were terrible this weekend as I some how survived on about 8 hours sleep over 4 days. The glitter managed to stay on for over 24 hours, in fact I struggled to get it off in the shower when I got home. I got a few funny looks in the service station in the queue for a Mcdonalds on Monday.

Ellie and I on Saturday waiting for George Ezra on the main stage, he was amazing even though I only knew about 5 songs.
The arm tattoo is from Topshop and comes in a pack for £6.50, considering they were charging £10 for 1 of the exact same ones at the festival!

On Sunday night we managed to get to the barrier of the main stage for Kasabian! They were insane and definitely my favourite part of the weekend. However it was quite scary being at the barrier and getting squashed while watching about 6 people get dragged out over the barrier as they got crushed. The crowd was just so mental!

The only major downsides to V was the price of the food. It is obvious that food and drink is always expensive at festivals so we took enough food to last us for the first 2 days as we didn't see the point in being ripped off. I thought the food was expensive at T but it was even more at V! You would not catch me paying £10+ for a box of noodles or £7+ for a burger. We got a pizza on the saturday which was £9 for pizza, chips and a drink we were so hungry and compared to all the other food places that was cheap. Anyway I was really excited for this pizza but it was so disgusting I couldn't finish it and it made me feel a bit ill for the rest of the day. So yeah I will not be eating pizza at a festival again. However there was a food section called V Healthy which had foods such as burritos, BBQ, sandwhiches and fruit which is where we ate once and it was really nice; loads better than the arena food but still expensive! So me and Ellie mostly lived off cereal bars, digestive biscuits, cheese strings and strongbow for 4 days and it was fabulous.

So V Festival Weston Park was absolutely insane and a great experience, writing this post and looking back at all the photos is making me seriously sad! I can't wait to go to more festivals next summer and V will without a doubt be on the list.

I have made a pinterest board of everything I took to V that I can still find on the internet! Click here to view

Until next year V...

REN Clean Skincare review

6 August 2015

I got my hands on a little gift box from REN around a month ago now. The products were the perfect size for traveling so I decided to take them on holiday with me and try a new skincare routine. If you have read previous posts then you will of heard me rave on about Clinique's 3 step skin care, which I have been using since December and I am a huge fan of it. However I was really excited to try something new for a change.

A little bit about REN Clean Skincare...
REN prodcuts are 100% natural and contain no synthetic ingredients which can be harsh on skin; all their ingredients are from plants and minerals. The company launched in 2000 and have become a skincare favourite brand and I was really excited to find out why.

What i got...

First impressions...
Firstly I really like the design of the bottles of the hot cloth cleanser and the day cream; the pumps make it easier as they pump out the right amount of product so none is wasted. All the products smell so so good which just makes the over all experience of using them a lot better.

Rosa Centifolia Hot Cloth Cleanser...
I am a big fan of hot cloth cleansers since using one by Liz Earle. It is my preferred way to remove make up as you feel like you can get it all off easily and thoroughly, unlike when using make up remover cream and cotton wool or just face soap. I apply a few pumps of the cleanser to my face when it is dry and massage it in and it breaks down the make up and makes it easier to remove. Then I soak the face cloth in hot water and then wipe off the cleanser, taking my make up with it. It is so easy and does not make you scrub away your make up which can damage your skin, especially around your eyes. It is extremely good for removing eye make up, as mascara is always a nightmare to take off. But the mascara gets broken down easily and simply wipes away. If you want to try anything out of the four products I am writing about then it should definitely be this!

V Cleanse Night Cream...
The V cleanse night cream claims to recharge and hydrate the skin over night, while also giving antioxidant protection to prevent signs of premature aging of the skin and fine lines. Now I don't think I have any fine lines that I need smoothing out as I'm only 16 (well I really hope I don't), but REN didn't lie that your skin will feel super hydrated in the morning! The night is the time when your skin is least hydrated and can become dry, as you are not taking in any water. So it is important to always apply moisturiser before you sleep to prevent your skin from drying out.

Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Face Mask...
The face mask is my favourite type of face mask, a peel mask! I find peeling face masks so satisfying, maybe it's just me? You use this mask once a week and its job is to renew the skin, improve skin tone and reduce pore size. You leave the mask on for 10 minutes and it makes your skin tingle slightly. Afterwards my skin feels so fresh and smooth, as if all of the oils and impurities are drawn out of it. Definitely one of my new favourite face masks and I will be buying the full size bottle as soon as this one runs out.

Vita Mineral Daily Supplement Moisturising cream...
Finally the Vita Mineral Day cream which is for all skin types and replenishes the skin with antioxidants, nutrients, vitamins and of course moisture. Since using it daily my skin feels so hydrated and much more healthy. The cream maintains the skin's moisture throughout the day but is still light and sinks into the skin quickly. There is nothing more I hate that a day cream that feels so heavy and sits on top of your skin making you look really shiny for the whole day! You simply massage the cream gently into the skin after using the hot cloth cleanser, or after the radiance renewal face mask, until it is absorbed.

So that is what I got from REN Clean Skincare! I am so impressed with the results of the products and I'm going to look for some new ones to try from their range. After using the products for 3 weeks, over all my skin feels so much more hydrated and fresh. My favourite product is definitely the hot cloth cleanser. It removes make up, dirt and excess oils thoroughly which leaves my skin feeling so much cleaner! For more information about REN head over to their blog. Thank you REN for helping me find a new skincare routine that I LOVE!
